Please help check and encourage and praise them after they finish their math homework everyday. It means a lot to them. They are very good and motivated kids.
Chinese
We are reviewing all lessons and try to intergrade. Kids have learned many basic sentences patterns and they can start to create their own words that they want to say in Chinese. I am so excited when they create their sentences. Sometimes the classes are kind of noisy, but I can't stop them. Because they are speaking Chinese. So proud of them.
We will go to Clark planetarium tomorrow. Please don't be late. Our bus will leave at 9:15 pm.

Chinese Lesson
L17 What pets do you have?
L23 What animal does have long nose?
We are learning pets and animals these two weeks. We try to combine these two related lessons together. Besides the basic vocabularies ( dog, cat, bird, fish, elephant, giraffe, snake, Monkey..)in textbook, we also learn some extra words about animals ( frog, chicks, turtle, rabbit, penguin, pig...). Kids are very interested in imitating every animals. Learning from playing. It really helps them remember the words.
We still keep practicing writing. Our kids love writing. Some kids can remember and recite the names of every stroke when we start to write a character. They are amazing. We practice the characters in Volume 1. We can go back to review the lessons. It's also much easier for them to learn writing something that they have been familiar with for a while.

I am really proud of our kids learning so hard and so well. Thank you so much for your support all the time. If you have any questions, please e-mail any time or bring to the PT conference.
See you in PT conference.

Dear Parents,
Chinese New Year is around the corner. The students in Taiwan now is taking their one-month ( we usually have three-week) winter vacation, because Chinese New Year this year is late in solar calendar ( The Chinese New Year is counted in Chinese Lunar calendar. It’s on February 9 in 2013. )
There are two Chinese activities that you might be interested in. One is in Cottonwood high school, and one is in Lehi high school. Please see the attached files.
We also do a lion mask ornament this week. They did a great job and can’t wait to bring it home to share with you.

Dear Parents,
I have done our M-com math test this week. All kids did
awesome job. I am so proud of them. I also appreciate what you did for them.
Math
We finished the topic 8 today. Kids will bring our math
workbook today. If you have time, you can help them review on www.pearsonsuccessnet.com. I
believe they will benefit a lot from reviewing.
We are going to have CFA2 math test next week. This test includes topic 4~7, and 15. We did
the CFA1 by hardcopy last time, but we will try to have kids use laptop to do
the test this time. If you still have time, please help kids review and
practice to answer questions online. This is a “skill” that our young kids need
to learn.
Chinese
We are reviewing L13, learning L14, L15 and previewing L16.
We learn Chinese in spiral way. Two to three weeks before we start a lesson, we
start to learn the key vocabularies in that lesson. After kids are familiar
with those words, it’s easier to learn sentences.
We never really FINISH a lesson, because we need to review
again, again and again.
The best part to be a teacher is to see our students are
enjoying in learning and did learned what we teach. Thank you so much for
letting me have your great kid in my class. I did enjoying teaching. Thanks for
all you do.
Have a great weekend.
PS: I have 5 new posts in our class blog. There
are some information on each post. You may have a look and see how hard our
kids are learning. : )

Week 13 14 ( 11/19~11/30)
Dear Parents,
Thanks for your coming to parent-teaching conference. I am so grateful of having so many wonderful kids in my class this year. They are learning much faster and better than my last year students. To be honest, it was a kind of hard for me in teaching them at the beginning of the school year. And I know it's much harder for them to be in Chinese class for 3.5 hours everyday. If I were them, I would be bored to death. But they are still learning very hard, even though they talked a lot to each other in English. And for me, I was used to the interaction with my old students last year. I only remember how happy I was with them everyday and totally forgot we also had hard time at beginning. Fortunately, now most kids can understand what I am talking about in Chinese and study harder in class. This is the most exciting thing in the world for a teacher, especially for a Chinese teacher alone here. They are my dearest kids, my family. I enjoy a lot with them everyday.
We enjoy very much in class everyday so we sincerely invite you to our Chinese class. We are going to have a Open House on November 28. Morning Chinese classes have an open house from 9-10 am. Afternoon Chinese classes have an open house from 2-3 pm. Please come to see how hard our kids are learning.
Wishing you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your family.

Week 12 ( 11/12~11/16)
Dear old and new parents,I post some popular(mostly in Taiwan) songs in our blog. Welcome to download when you have a long trip by car. I will also keep continue to posing more songs. You can also see many other songs on the right column after clicking on the song in YouTube.
I don't teach all songs in our blog. Because after learning Target language and math in Chinese, kids are tired. Our math and language schedule is very intense, and we really don't have much time to learn many songs. But I try to use the sentences that we learned in class as lyrics to make a easier song. Then we can review what we learn by singing.
Have fun with your kids.

Week 11 (11/05~11/09)
Dear parents,
We are sending an ENVELOP home today. There are some papers inside.
Report card: ( X1, White)about reading, math, social studies, science studies and behavior.
SEP conference form: ( X2, one blue, one white) if you have any questions, please write it down on the white paper.
Chinese report card: ( X1, I just do the listening and speaking parts. We will evaluate the writing next time and do the reading part at the end of the school year.)
Draper Dragon conference sheet: ( x1, to remind your SEP conference schedule)
Math
I have done the chapter 3. Our math schedule in November is Addition and subtraction to 12.
Most kids can do addition and subtraction under 10 very well, but not to 12. (Because they have only ten fingers.) We will teach new strategy to do that in this month.
Chinese
We will learn L5 this and next week. Which school do you go to? And Which grade are you in?
We wil reinforce L6. It's I love my family.
If you have any questions about SEP conference, please feel free to e-mail me and Mrs Anderson.
Thank you.
Have a great week.
Mrs Lee
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear parents,
One more important reminder.
PLEASE bring that envelope with you, when you come to the SEP conference. If you have any questions about any grade on that, we cal discuss about them.
We will also give you the reading improvement report card and math improvement report card ONLY on the day you come for the SEP conference. You can see kids' improvement from kindergarden to 1st grade. They probably didn't improve on that test, because the district did that at the start of the school year. After a LONG summer vacation, most kids forgot what they learned in kindergarden. Our next AIMSweb tests for reading and math in this winter, I believe all kids will make (little, a lot, huge…) improvement next time. They are working very hard and have been doing a great job so far.
Thank you so much for your support that make our kids make such improvement.
Mrs Lee
Week 10 (10/29~11/02)
Dear Parents,I am so impressed that most kids return the homework the next day during last week. Thank you very much for your support. I checked out their homework. They all did a great job. Thank you very much for your support.
Chinese
We are learning Lesson 4: What is nationality? Please check up the Today's Chinese.
We are still practicing L1 to L3. We learn more sentences based on the basic sentences.
For example:
How are you? >>> How are you TODAY? I am fine Today.
How old are you? >>> How old is your dad/ mom/ sister/ brother...?
(The people in family is in Lesson 6, but I have already learned the name of the family people in Calendar math everyday.)
We also need to practice not only answering my questions, but also asking questions at the same time. We need to practice speaking to fluency. I try my best to make sure everyone get chances to ask and answer questions and we try to make it more interesting.
As to the Chinese writing, we just practice basic writing. Let kids familiar with Chinese character. Sometimes it's just a component of a character, we don't really use that character. It's the basic writing for the beginners from the workbook of Better Chinese. We will practice to write a phrase or sentence after kids get used to the rules of Chinese writing. That would be more understandable for them.
Math
We are learning addition and subtraction under 10 in many ways, such as: ten frames, known/ unknown park of a number, story questions.....We have done the Chapter 2, and let kids bring the book home. We are doing Chapter 3. It's also about the addition and subtraction under 12. And 5 and 10 relationships. We are practicing that in our calendar math everyday too.
We are going to have a CFA test on second week of November. That's that test for Chapter 1~3 (Counting numbers, known and unknown part of a number, compare two/ three numbers from greatest to least, vice verse, > and <, short story questions, addition and subtraction under 12 ). We will have quiz everyday since tomorrow till the CFA test day. I will let kids to bring the quiz home everyday. You can help kids to practice that type of math questions.
If you have any questions or you just want to know about your kid's learning and behavior in Chinese class. You are welcomed anytime. You can come in to watch or help anytime even though you don't sign to be a volunteer.
If you have any questions about kids, homework or everything, please feel free to e-mail me. Thank you so much for your support.
Mrs Lee
Week 9 (10/22~26)
10/22
Dear parents,We have a Chinese homework and a math homework today.
In Chinese homework, that is the wordbook going with our textbook "Better Chinese". There is a big character on the top of the paper. It shows all strokes in Chinese.
The kids only need to trace and write 6 words in the square.
This is the word 人 . It means person, people.
In math homework, we are doing under 6 subtraction. Most kids can do it very well with their fingers.
After a long weekend, I am so glad to see that all kids can still remember Chinese and still study very hard. The kids in the afternoon are a kind of tired today. I know it's the common syndrome after a long weekend. The library lady said they were very good in the library. Proud of them.
Please let kids return the homework tomorrow. We will have this type of Chinese and math homework this week. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you for your support.
Have a great evening.

10/17
Dear parents,I am so excited to tell you that our kids are doing great job in class and they are progressing everyday. I know they are leaning very hard to be a good students in Chinese class. For example: They try to repeat after me. They can understand and say some simple sentences that we use everyday in our class. They know many math words in Chinese. I know it's very hard for them. They need to learn math, and they also try their best to understand and say those words at the same time…. We almost find out our common rhythm. I am so proud of them.
I will post our weekly reviewing plan on Weekly New in our class blog every week. We totally can catch up the schedule that the sate government set for us. I also provide some supplementary books and math worksheets for kids. They are like a sponge. They surprise me all the time.
http://mrsleedraper.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html
We have math homework everyday these two weeks. I am so grateful for all parents' support. Most kids can return their homework the next day. I am so impressed of their responsibility for their homework.
Chinese review
Our kids need to learn MANY classroom vocabularies since the school started. I want them to understand these rules and basic conversation efficiently. We always practice ask and answer questions. And now all kids are getting on tract now. We can start to write Chinese characters that really help them recognize. We will start next week. We will practice at school first then I will give them homework. On the top of every Chinese worksheet, there are stroke orders of every character. You can help kids. You can also show the link for every word on the Today's Chinese on our class website.
http://mrsleedraper.blogspot.com/p/todays-chinese.html
I know some parents take kids to family trips during school day. Please don't worry about the homework in Chinese class. We always review our lesson again and again. Please go ahead to enjoy your trip.
I also post some photos on artwork and school activities. Please enjoy it. If you have any questions about your kid, leaning, homework,……, please feel free to e-mail me anytime.
Thank you very much for your support.
